As an orthodontist in Pelham, NY who is a member of Moms of Pelham (MOPS), I always read with great interest the various posts that appear on orthodontics. I also read the recent post requesting that thought be given before making recommendations to other MOPS.

Based on these various posts it occurred to me that the group might be interested in learning some tips about the right questions to ask when selecting an orthodontist. Therefore, I have decided to publish, a series of posts with questions that you should ask and things you should think about when considering orthodontic treatment for your family or yourself. It is my hope that by giving you this information you will be better prepared when engaged in a search for an orthodontist.

The topics that I am currently planning to cover are:

1. Why orthodontic treatment?
2. Types of braces
3. Making the initial trip for the consultation with the orthodontist.
4. Special concerns for adults considering orthodontic treatment.
5. Fees, insurance and third party financing.
6. Completion of treatment – retainers.
